universalidentity:

Team Happy Beginnings.

Even though today was a blah day, I can’t hide the emotions and how much it meant to me that everyone came out to support this cause. I mostly keep it to myself the feelings I have about my childhood illness, and often get awkward about it. This was the first time I went out to show my support and stand out as a survivor. It felt good to do it with the people who were with me.

This is what love looks like. When you have people who will stand by you no matter how awkward or weird times get. Myself & my SYNIA girls walking at the Valerie Fund walk for children with cancer and blood disorders. I am TVF kid. :)

SYNIA at The Valerie Fund walk earlier this year in Verona, New Jersey.

Update: T-Shirts.

Salma is currently at the printers, giving them our stencil and paying for the t-shirts. They should be out and about before the week is up. I hope you’re all excited and ready for your new t-shirts!

Life for Relief and Development wishes to bring your attention to the worst drought in 60 years to hit the Horn of Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, and Uganda). A potential famine is threatening the lives of over 10 million people, who do not have enough food or water to survive.
You only need to read the following quotes gathered from news sources to understand the magnitude of this ongoing disaster:
“The UN children’s agency estimates that over two million children are malnourished in the region and about 500,000 of them are in life threatening conditions at this stage.’” AFP, July 8, 2011
“The children look so weak they are not even playing. Some are barely clothed, with no shoes.”A Somali refugee describing new arrivals into the Dadaab Camp in Kenya, IRIN News, July 5, 2011
“The drought has gotten so bad that we have seen camels dying of thirst.” An aid worker in Somalia, The Huffington Post on July 7, 2011
Life has already responded by releasing tens of thousands of dollars for emergency response efforts to help a group of 500 homeless Somali families who are on the verge of dying from starvation. Life has also commissioned the digging of water wells to open up new sources of drinking water.
Much more work needs to be done, and we need your help.
Please consider donating what you can to Life’s Emergency Campaign for the Horn of Africa. Your donations will be used to provide food, water, baby formula, hygiene supplies, and other essential items to people whose suffering is unimaginably shocking.
DONATE $100 to provide food for one family (over 5 members)
DONATE $200 to provide food for two families (over 5 members)
DONATE $500 to provide food for five families (over 5 members)
DONATE $3500 to dig a water well in Somalia
DONATE $500 a share in a water well in Somalia
Or Choose A Different Amount; Every Dollar Helps
The drought is melting away nearly every aspect of livelihood in rural areas, where people live off of the land.
The lack of water means that neither food crops nor prairie grasses grow. No food crops means no food for the villagers. No grass means no food for the cows and goats that are relied on for milk and trade. No cows or goats mean no milk for children, and no way of making money for families. And because of the drought, water has become much harder and harder to find.
Your donation, the one we hope you will make right now, will put food in the empty stomach of a starving child or mother and provides water for the thirsty. Your simple act of kindness and generosity may save someone’s life—and that is no exaggeration!

about synia.

The National Islamic Association, Inc., was established in 1985 to serve a growing Muslim community. Over the years, it has spawned a very dynamic and diverse community of Muslims from all walks of life. Being an inner city community, one of our primary aims is to safeguard our youth from the many pitfalls that plague the youth of the inner cities across the country.

Our key strategy of achieving success is: a structured educational program, establishing positive alternatives and providing a wholesome environment for our youths. We seriously cater to the needs of our members and beyond with an array of effective educational, developmental, social and recreational activities and programs.

This group was created for us to better notify you when we have upcoming events and programs geared towards the youths. Please feel free to post and comment anything interesting you would like to share with the rest of us inshaAllah.
